Let me tell you about my neighborhood. The place you always come back to. The place where the streets know you and people greet you by name. This is Manuel Quintero Villarreal. A small part of David, right between San Mateo and Doleguita. My aunts, uncles and cousins have lived their whole lives. Here, between one corner and another, I met the friends who, years later, are still like brothers to me. And if there's one thing that makes this place special, it's the perfect mix between the calm of a small town and the comfort of having everything close.

When hunger hits, we don't need to go far. I promise you. Here are my favorite spots, the ones any neighbor would recommend with their eyes closed: 

 Pizzería Verona

Can you smell that? It's crispy crust, melted cheese, and that tomato sauce only they know how to make. Verona is the Sunday family plan, the savior delivery when you don't want to cook, that pizza that tastes like childhood. A classic that never fails. 

Pizzería Gretta

If you're looking for a cooler plan with your friends, Gretta is your place. The pizza here has personality, with combinations that surprise you. And the atmosphere, more intimate, invites you to stay and talk until late. 

Don Chicharrón

My friend, if there's one thing we Chiricanos know how to do well, it's chicharrón. And here, at Don Chicharrón, they take it to another level. That sound when you bite into it... crunchy on the outside, juicy on the inside. Served with yuca, patacones and a good cabbage salad, it's a direct trip to the taste of tradition. 

Java Juice

When the sun is strong (and in David that's almost always), Java Juice is the relief you're looking for. Their smoothies are pure fruit, fresh and ice cold. A place to relax, for an afternoon chat with a smoothie in your hand. 

El Pana Juancho

And then there's Juancho. The Pana (friend). That place where the food tastes like grandma's house. His daily dishes, his service always with a smile, and that relaxed atmosphere make it a must-stop. Here you don't just come to eat, you come to chill. 

 And there's more, I swear. Little hidden treasures on every block, waiting for you to discover them. 

💡 Tips so you can enjoy the neighborhood like a local 

If you're visiting, or if you just moved here, this is what you need to know: 

Say hello, always say hello. 

It's that simple. A "good morning" to your neighbor, a smile to the person passing by. People here are naturally friendly, and that small gesture can open the door to great conversations. 

 

Walk around the neighborhood. 

Really, there's no better way to get to know it. On foot, you'll find the hidden workshop, the corner store, the mural no one told you about. Manuel Quintero Villarreal is best enjoyed slowly, step by step. 

 

Ask the older folks. 

My relatives, those who have lived here their whole lives, have amazing stories. Ask them what the neighborhood used to be like, where such-and-such business was, which was the best food spot. They'll give you pieces of history you won't find on Google. 

Support the local businesses. 

When you buy from the people here, you're helping your neighbor, your friend's dad, the family that lives two houses away. Plus, the service is different, more personal. Nothing can replace that. 

And the best part... enjoy the peace.
